and maybe the flowers won’t bloom

by Martin Shone

tender shoots reach
from the shadows
as the blue sighs
to become the green

It is in those moments
when solitude
aches
to be the sky

slumbering hearts
listen
as the clouds
smile

It is in those moments
when solitude
aches
to believe

a scent of romance
brushes the wild
to drift and become
a rose

It is in those moments
when solitude
aches
to inhale

silent steps
edge closer to reality
as moonlight
brings its own dawn

It is in those moments
when solitude
aches
to flower

and maybe
the flowers won’t bloom
because
they already are
